District Profile:
- Formerly Karimnagar District O/o Assistant Director (AH), Jagtial Division O/o District Veterinary & Animal Husbandry Officer, Jagtial District has been formed as Jagtial District.
- Government of Telangana vide G.O. Ms.No.226 Revenue (DA-CMRF) Department Dt: 11.10.2016 and distribution of staff G.O. Rt.No.178, AHDDF (AH) Department Dt: 11.10.2016 and has started functioning from 11.10.2016.
- Jagtial is one of the districts in the state of Telangana with a majority of the rural population mainly dependent on agriculture, animal husbandry and allied sectors for their livelihood.
- The district consists of (18) mandals (with 3) revenue divisions, (3) parliamentary constituencies (namely, Nizamabad, Peddapally and Karimnagar), (5) assembly constituencies namely, Jagtial, Dharmapuri, Korutla, Vemulawada and Choppadandi.
- Jagtial district has rich livestock resources such as subsidiary dairy animals, small dairy units, backyard poultry, specialized poultry farming, and extensive sheep flocks of often migratory system. Livestock plays an important role in improving rural livelihoods.
- Livestock plays an important role in the agro-economy of the district. In Jagtial district, sheep rearing is the main livestock related activity undertaken by the pastoralist societies (mainly Golla and Kurma). Apart from this, many landless, small and marginal farmers derive their significant livelihood from raising dairy animals.
