District Profile:

  • Formerly Karimnagar District O/o Assistant Director (AH), Jagtial Division O/o District Veterinary & Animal Husbandry Officer, Jagtial District has been formed as Jagtial District.
  • Government of Telangana vide G.O. Ms.No.226 Revenue (DA-CMRF) Department Dt: 11.10.2016 and distribution of staff G.O. Rt.No.178, AHDDF (AH) Department Dt: 11.10.2016 and has started functioning from 11.10.2016.
  • Jagtial is one of the districts in the state of Telangana with a majority of the rural population mainly dependent on agriculture, animal husbandry and allied sectors for their livelihood.
  • The district consists of (18) mandals (with 3) revenue divisions, (3) parliamentary constituencies (namely, Nizamabad, Peddapally and Karimnagar), (5) assembly constituencies namely, Jagtial, Dharmapuri, Korutla, Vemulawada and Choppadandi.
  • Jagtial district has rich livestock resources such as subsidiary dairy animals, small dairy units, backyard poultry, specialized poultry farming, and extensive sheep flocks of often migratory system. Livestock plays an important role in improving rural livelihoods.
  • Livestock plays an important role in the agro-economy of the district. In Jagtial district, sheep rearing is the main livestock related activity undertaken by the pastoralist societies (mainly Golla and Kurma). Apart from this, many landless, small and marginal farmers derive their significant livelihood from raising dairy animals.

  • Nationwide Artificial Insemination Program :

Ist phase program launched on 09.2019 (Nationwide) :

  1. 100 villages selected in the first phase
  2. Target AIs conducted in the village are about 200 animals from 26.09.2019 till 05.2020
  3. Total target 100 Villages x 200 Animals = 20000 Animals
  4. Achievement : 20689 [Department Staff: 11661+ Gopalamitras: 9028]
  5. Achievement % : 103.44 %.

IInd phase started from 01.08.2020 covering 50000 animals, 4178 animals inseminated till the month of October.2020.

  1. Free Foot & Mouth Disease Vaccination Programme Round II: Conducted from 01.02.2020 to 30.06.2020 and covered 139221 animals.
  2. Mass Sheep & Goat Deworming Programme: Conducted from 01.12.2020 to 07.12.2020 to cover 708018 sheep and goat population. As on 07.12.2020, there was a population of 335300 sheep and goats.
