HORTICULTURE & SERICULTURE DEPARTMENT ACTIVITIES IN JAGTIAL DISTRICT

 

            The Horticulture & Sericulture Department has communicated the physical and financial targets along with guidelines towards various subsidy schemes for implementation in Jagtial District.  They are as follows.

  1. Mission for Integrated Development of Horticulture (MIDH)
  • Area expansion under fruits:
  1. Tissue Culture Banana: A subsidy amount of Rs. 30700/- is being provided to the farmers who are cultivating Tissue culture Banana in an area of 1 ha.

Spacing : 1.8 m x 1.8m           No of plants per Ha: 3086

  1. Papaya Area expansion: A subsidy amount of Rs. 22500/- is being provided for Papaya cultivation  in an area of 1 ha.

Spacing : 1.8 m x 1.8m           No of plants per Ha: 3086

  1. Mango Area expansion: A subsidy amount of Rs. 17400/- is being provided for Papaya cultivation  in an area of 1 ha.

Spacing : 3 m x 4m     No of plants per Ha: 833

  1. Guava Area expansion: A subsidy amount of Rs. 17600/- is being provided for Guava cultivation  in an area of 1 ha.

Spacing : 3 m x 3m     No of plants per Ha: 1111

  1. Farm Ponds:

                         The main objective of farm pond construction by farmers is to withstand the         shortage of water during summer season.  An amount of Rs.75000/-  is being provided as subsidy towards construction of 1 unit.

                         Size of the Farm Pond:  20m x 20m x 3m

  1. Shadenet House:

                         A subsidy amount of Rs.3.50 Lakhs is being provided to the farmers  on    construction of shadenet houses in an area of 1000 sqm towards cultivation    of         high value of vegetables.

  1. Plastic Mulching:

                         A subsidy amount of Rs.16000/- is being provided to the farmers towards the  cost of plastic mulching being utilized for vegetable cultivation.

  1. Ultra High Density Mango cultivation:

                         A subsidy amount of Rs.2.75 Lakhs is being provided to the farmers towards cultivation of Mango by following ultra high density method of cultivation.

Spacing : 2.5 m x 2.5m           No of plants per Ha: 1600

  • The subsidy amounts pertaining to all the schemes under MIDH will be directly released to the beneficiaries account (DBT)

II   Micro Irrigation:

                         The subsidy on Drip & Sprinkler system is being provided by Horticulture &  Sericulture Department in Jagtial District.

                         90% subsidy is being provided on Drip Irrigation system to General category (SF/MF) farmers and 100% subsidy to SC/ST farmers.  The subsidy  on Drip irrigation system is restricted to 80% to the farmers possessing more than 5 acres land.  Each farmer can utilize a maximum of 12.50 acres.  The subsidy   can be claimed only at once and cannot be availed within a continuous period of 7 years. 

Brief note on Horticulture & Sericulture Department

Introduction : –

             Jagityal district is situated in northern part of Telangana State fully endowed with rich natural resources for Agriculture and Horticulture.  The district has made rapid strides in Agriculture and Horticulture production since establishment of Sriram Sagar Project (SRSP) which irrigates 15 mandals out of 18 mandals in the district.         

Soils:- 

Jagityal District is fully endowed with various types of soils ranging from less fertile to fertile soils i.e.,

  • Red sandy loams (chalkas)
  • Red loamy sands (Dubbas)
  • Deep Red Soils
  • Shallow to medium black soils
  • Deep black soils
  • Problematic soils

 Climate:-

The District has tropical climate the seasons in Jagtial district are

  1. South – West monsoon :           June to September extending up to October
  2. Winter :                                         November to February
  3. Hot Summer :                             March to May

Rainfall:-

            The rain fall received in Jagityal District during south west monsoon period was 959.68    mm.

  • Major source of irrigation in the Jagityal district is open wells, Bore wells and canals.
  • Major Horticulture crops grown in the District are Mango, Turmeric and Vegetables
