NOTES ON VETERINARY AND ANIMAL HUSBANDRY ACTIVITIES IN JAGTIAL DISTRICT
FOR THE YEAR 2020-21.
District Profile :
- The O/o Assistant Director(AH), Jagtial Division existing in earstwhile Karimnagar District is upgraded as O/o District Veterinary & Animal Husbandry Officer, Jagtial District due to formation/
re-organisation of new districts (Formation of Jagtial as new District) by the Government of Telangana vide G.O. Ms.No.226 Revenue (DA-CMRF) Dept. Dt:11.10.2016 and distribution of Staff vide G.O. Rt.No.178, AHDDF(AH) Dept. Dt:11.10.2016 and started functioning from 11.10.2016.
- Jagtial is one of the District in Telangana State with majority of rural people mainly depending on Agriculture, Animal Husbandry and Allied activities for their livelihood.
- The district is having (18) mandals with (3) Revenue divisions, (3) Parliamentary constituencies (i.e., Nizamabad, Peddapally and Karimnagar) and (5) Assembly Constituencies i.e., Jagtial, Dharmapuri, Korutla, Vemulawada and Choppadandi.
- Jagtial district is endowed with rich livestock resources characterized by subsidiary dairy animals, small dairy units, backyard poultry, specialized poultry farming, extensive sheep flock of often migratory system etc. Livestock plays an important role in improvement of rural Livelihood.
- Livestock plays an important role in the district Agricultural Economy. In Jagtial district sheep rearing is major livestock related activity taken up by the rural poor and shepherd communities (mainly golla and kurma). Besides this, many land less, small and marginal farmers earn their substantial livelihood from rearing milch animals.

III. NATION WIDE ARTIFICIAL INSEMINATION PROGRAMME
- Ist phase Programme launched on 25.09.2019 (Nation wide)
- 100 villages are selected in Ist Phase
- Target to conduct AIs in 200 animals per village from 26.09.2019 to 31.05.2020
- Total Target 100 Villages x 200 Animals = 20000 Animals
- Achievement : 20689 [Dept Staff: 11661+ Gopalamitras: 9028]
- % of Achievement : 103.44%.
IInd Phase started from 01.08.2020 to cover 50000 Animals, 4178 Animals inseminated upto the month of October.2020.
- Free Foot & Mouth Disease Vaccination programme II round: Conducted from 01.02.2020 to 30.06.2020 and covered 139221 animals.
- Mass Sheep & Goat Deworming Programme: Conducted from 01.12.2020 to 07.12.2020 to cover 708018 Sheep & Goat population. As on 07.12.2020, 335300 Sheep & Goat population covered.
